"CJ's Barrel" is named after CJ Kingston, our family patriarch and pioneer who came to Casablanca in the early 1900s looking for gold. An extremely limited special bottling, it is allocated exclusively to Old Corral club members.
For the CJ’s Sauvignon Blanc, we selected the lots which had more depth, and perhaps less obvious charm. It is weighted towards the wines that were fermented and aged in concrete. Aromatically it bursts with mineral aromas of white pepper, dried herbs, and notes of tropical fruits like papaya and mango. On the palate it is even better, creamy and mouthfilling, finishing with nice acidity and a touch of sea salt. It’s one of the best Sauvignon Blancs we’ve produced at Kingston. **94 points** Wine of the Year. "Barrel" ought to be in inverted commas here, because this remarkable Sauvignon Blanc was entirely fermented and aged in concrete eggs. Made with the 107 clone it has aromas of ash, hedgerow and nettles, with a pithy, taut, wet stone-like palate and piercing acidity. - Tim Atkin
**94 points** Lemon curd, apple rind, honeysuckle, dried herbs and spices. There's so much texture here, it almost feels like a red with layers of phenolics, stacked against piercing acidity. Just the right combination. - James Suckling
**94 points** Best of Casablanca - Descorchados
Palest gold in the glass, this wine smells of green apple and lime. In the mouth, green apple and cut grass and star fruit flavors have a deep mineral stoniness as excellent acidity keeps the wine super fresh. Faint chalky texture lingers in the finish. The wine was fermented and aged entirely in a concrete egg for more than a year. -Vinography
