2021 Cuartel 8D Pinot Noir

Cuartel 8D is a selection from our oldest Pinot Noir block. A very different expression of Pinot Noir than the rest of the Kingston oeuvre, this wine is best described as bolder and earthier. The clay in this micro-terroir gives it a darker profile, especially next to its sister vintage, La Cantera, but the additional presence of decomposed granite means that it still retains the refreshing, crisp, finish of a lighter-bodied Pinot Noir. The aromas evoke sweet herbs and darker fruit — black cherries and pomegranate — and subdued notes of clove and cardamom. The wine is medium-to-full bodied, with excellent structure and grippy tannins. Of all our offerings, this wine will shine the most with age and can be cellared for decades to come. This is a wine worthy of a dedicated, intentional tasting, but it can also serve as a premium pairing with a mushroom risotto or grilled portobello mushrooms. Read more in Byron's tasting notes ››
